Establishment: Altınova Vocational School, Department of Machinery and Metal Technologies, within the scope of the Welding Technology Program, Welding; It is the joining of materials with the same or different metallurgical properties in a way that cannot be removed under heat and/or pressure, with or without the use of fillers. Welding is an indispensable joining method used in every industry and sector, from the construction industry to the machinery manufacturing industry and the shipbuilding industry. The search for quality in welded manufacturing; It has also led to an increase in the need for qualified and equipped welders. In order for welding applications to be successful, it is possible to choose the right welding method, to make the necessary preliminary preparations on the material surface, to select the most ideal filler metal and to have a conscious welder. Control mechanisms also need to work in these processes. Therefore, one of the most important characteristics of the personnel who will work in welding applications and inspections is that they must be trained. In this context, IIW (International Welding Institute) has prepared recommendations on the minimum requirements for the training, examination and certification of welding coordination personnel in its study. It is aimed to open the Welding Technology Program in order to train qualified intermediate staff who meet these conditions or have nationally accepted qualifications and have all the technical knowledge regarding the planning, execution, supervision and inspection of all duties and responsibilities related to welded manufacturing.
Degree Earned: Students who successfully complete this program are entitled to receive an Associate Degree in Welding Technology. Students who will graduate from the program will receive the title of "Welding Technician".
Level of Degree (Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Doctorate): This program is a program that provides education at the Associate Degree level.
Admission and Registration Conditions: Within the framework of the regulations determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), student admission to this program is made through the examination system conducted by the Student Selection and Placement (ÖSYS) Center. After students indicate their program preferences in which they want to study, they are placed in the relevant programs by this center according to the scores they receive from this exam. Foreign students are accepted to this program based on their internationally recognized exam results such as SAT and ACT or their secondary school graduation grades (Associate and Undergraduate Programs Foreign Student Admission Directive). Admission of students to programs with General Academic Exchange Protocol is made within the framework of bilateral agreements (such as ERASMUS, FARABİ, etc.) signed between Yalova University and the partner university. Guest students can enroll in the courses offered in this program if the relevant academic unit approves. Language proficiency to follow the program is required.
Rules Concerning the Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, in-formal, non-formal): Students studying at Yalova University may be exempt from some courses within the framework of certain regulations. If the content of the course taken at another institution is compatible with the content of the course given at Yalova University and is approved by the relevant faculty/institute/school board of directors, the student may be exempt from this course. Recognition of Education Abroad: The academic periods and courses of students who study abroad as exchange students for one or two semesters at our contracted universities and return are recognized by Yalova University. Students selected to benefit from Student Learning Mobility within the scope of the ERASMUS program are obliged to prepare a learning agreement with their ERASMUS Unit Coordinators before the start of their mobility period. This learning agreement; It shows the courses and ECTS values that the student will take at the partner university where he/she will study. In addition, students are required to prepare a Recognition Sheet. In this document, the credit transfer to be made is determined by showing the equivalents of the courses students will take abroad at Yalova University. At the end of the exchange period, the courses taken by the student abroad are shown in their transcripts along with their original codes and names, ECTS Credits and grades. In the official transcripts of the students, these courses are accompanied by the abbreviation "ET", which means "course taken at foreign universities within the scope of the ERASMUS Program and cooperation agreements". Qualification Conditions and Rules: 1 To be able to recognize industrial materials, to know their mechanical, physical and chemical properties, to recognize non-ferrous and ferrous materials and to have knowledge about their properties. 2 To know the rules of technical drawing and to be able to draw geometric and construction parts using these rules and to be able to read ready-made project drawings. 3 To know the tools and equipment related to welded joints. Program Profile: The program consists of 120 ECTS credits. There are a total of 49 elective and compulsory courses in the program. There are a maximum of 10 courses in each semester. There are a total of 30 elective courses in the III and IV semesters. III. and IV. A MINIMUM of 21 ECTS branch elective courses or * Workplace Application Training will be taken in any of the semesters. (3+1) In order to graduate, 30 working days of Industry-based education [EDÖ] (Internship) is mandatory. (30 Business Days)
Employment Profiles of Graduates (with examples): Welding Technologies Program; It trains intermediate staff who can perform technical operations on materials containing metal and non-metal materials. Graduates can work in publicly or privately owned machinery, metal, iron, steel, aluminum, casting factories, shipbuilding, shipyard workshops, materials, metallographic examination and laboratories, etc. Fields can also work as technicians. Many Vocational Schools have a Mechanical Department program. However, students of this program are inadequate in resource-based laboratories and applications. The fact of opening the Welding Technology program was revealed in the meetings held with some industrial organizations in the Eastern Marmara region, especially in the Yalova Altınova shipyards region. In the surveys conducted throughout Turkey in the last 10 years within the scope of labor market research conducted by similar institutions, especially the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, when looking at the distribution of employees by sectors, it is seen that the manufacturing sector ranks first. Welding Technologies occupy an important place in the manufacturing sector. When we look at the distribution of employees according to their professions in total, metal works are in the top 10 by year. This shows that one of the most important building blocks of the industrial sector is the metal sector. The sector needs a lot of qualified personnel trained in this field. In general, when looking at open jobs by profession, Welding Technologies is among the top 10 among more than 113 professions by year. When we look at the professions that are difficult to find, Welding Technologies is among the top 10 among more than 110 professions, according to the years. There are opportunities for internship and employment after graduation in organized industrial zones (OIZ) and other production-manufacturing industry establishments in the Eastern Marmara region, especially in the Yalova Altınova shipyards region. Transition to Upper Degree Programs: Students who graduate from this program can continue their undergraduate programs in accordance with the determined rules. (Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Technology; relevant Engineering Departments)
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation: The assessment and evaluation method applied for each course is defined in detail in the "Course Information Form", Evaluation System, Grading Principles and Success Conditions.
Graduation Requirements: In order to graduate from the Welding Technology Program, the amount of national credits that students must complete is 85 in total, 30 of which belong to elective courses. The ECTS credit amount is determined as 120 in total, 30 for each semester. The Welding Technology Program training period is 2 years. The student who has attended the courses shown in the curriculum and has been successful in all of them, and has completed all the studies specified in this Regulation and other relevant legislation. Additionally, for graduation, the student must have completed a successful internship in the industry for 30 working days.
